Do You Share What's Important to You?

It's hard to know when something you've shared or taught...sticks. And yet, this is exactly the reward my son received while taking his son for a bike ride during last week's Fourth of July holiday.

My eldest, Isaac, was pedaling after Greyson (my oldest grandson), who was taking his new hot-rod two-wheeler for a spin around the neighborhood. Trying to give his son space to stretch his 6 year-old's wings, Isaac's heart caught in his throat when he saw Greyson's sudden stop and what appeared to be his little boy sprawled out.

It took only a few powerful pedals to reach his son and when he did it took just a moment longer to process what he was seeing. Tears filled Isaac's eyes as he connected why Greyson was off his bike and what he was actually doing on bended knee. Earlier in the week they had discussed the importance of the American Flag along with the respect it deserved, especially that it should never touch the ground. Now, Greyson was proving he had taken this message to heart. Noticing a tiny yard flag laying on the grass, he had jumped off his bike, shoved the kickstand down with all the force of an emergency and was reverently re-planting the the little wooden pole upright.

I am not only a proud American at the moment of this writing, I am a proud mother and grandmother...grateful the price of freedom has been processed, preserved and passed on to a new generation.

May we, who are blessed by those who sacrificed to ensure our freedom, never underestimate the importance of sharing truths that matter.
